stepping outside of my comfort zone

The above two quotes were running through  my head constantly this past week as I put on my big kid pants and prepped for my very first job interview. It's a scary thing, growing up, and no matter how much you learn about job interview do's and dont's in school you're always gonna be shaking when the moment comes that you are actually sitting in an office across from an interviewer, or in my case, sitting in an office with nine other applicants and four interviewers.

To be completely honest, on Tuesday when I got off the phone with the manager who invited me in for a group interview I laughed and said "yeah right, that's not happening", but happen it did. I convinced myself that all things good in life come with hard work, and sometimes I just need to take one measly step outside of my comfort zone (or in this case, 342 steps) and get it over with. And now it's done. And come Monday, I may or may not have a job at Walmart. And whether I get good news or bad, this was one of those things that just had to happen for me to learn and grow (although I'd much rather get good news- fingers and toes are crossed!).

finding your niche

I've been experimenting with my little blog here a whole lot lately. More posts, less posts, more words, less words, more photos, less photos- you get the idea. When reading and following along with so many other peoples blogs and seeing how they portray their lives it's so easy to feel a little overwhelmed in not being able to find your own niche of merging words and photographs together to make something that you can be proud of, while at the same time still portraying your own life clearly.

I've never thought of myself as a talented writer (and still don't), but over the past few months I've realized that that's exactly what I've been pretending to be. For me it's hard to find a balance between keeping things light-hearted and happy while trying to be honest with myself and my readers. I have just as many deep thoughts lingering through my mind as reasons why life is good, but often can't find the right words to express what I'm feeling which results to giving up altogether.

I'm sure it will be years before I am completely comfortable and confident with who I am as a blogger, but at the moment I am completely content. With my content, my blog, my readers, and as cliche as it sounds, just life in general. It's all so good.

I'm curious, have you found your "niche" yet?

Because almost everything looks better in black and white, these boys are adorable, and bubbles are my most recent obsession.

the month of june

It's 7:37 am, which is normally around the time that I would be getting up, but I've already been up for over an hour and a half. It's June you know, and new months call for new challenges. My two biggest goals for the month of May - eating healthy and running every day - quickly failed, but this month I'm dedicated. I've clicked it down a few notches and instead am challenging myself to go for a bike ride around a trail by my house every single weekday morning of June. I'm still continuing on the eating healthy and drinking more water goal, but also adding buckling down to my list. It's nearing the end of the school year, with June 25th being my very last day of 10th grade, so I need to smarten up, start paying more attention, and even start studying for those awful final exams.

June will be good. How could the month that brings summer not be?
