Oh, Christmas. I'm at a loss for words, so I only have two things to say.

1. I love my family.
2. Snow on Christmas day is my favourite thing ever.

Merry Christmas, friends. I hope it was great!

the first snow

We had our first snowfall last week. Big white fluffy flakes fell from the sky and blanketed the frozen earth, transforming my backyard into something resembling a little Christmas village -- the mountain and rooftops and the frozen pond all covered in white. Unfortunately, snow where I live doesn't usually last long due to the amount of rain we get, but it sure was nice while it lasted.

on baking with grandma

I went to my grandma's house a couple of weeks ago to do some Christmas baking. It was just me and her -- sifting, stirring, blending, and rolling while dancing around the kitchen to Christmas music. We made our usual, Swedish Pepperkakor, from the kitchen of my great-grandmother, but also tried a few new recipes to add something new to our list of Christmas goods that we bake every year. It's traditions like these that make this season so sweet.

nostalgic for the right now

I'm feeling nostalgic right now. Not a very rare emotion for me, but powerful all the same. I'm feeling nostalgic for the places I've been and the people that I used to know. For the carefree days of summer and the way I felt last fall. For the adventures of my childhood and the cities that I used to live in. For the simplicity of the past, and for the right now, because someday the right now will be the past and I know that I'm going to miss being young and free and passionate about so many things. These are the good days, they say, the best time of your life. I couldn't agree more.
